Devotional #2 - Creation
THE DAYS OF CREATION
Have You Ever Wondered?
1. How long did it take God to create the whole universe?
2. Did it take millions of years or only a few days?
3. How could so many smart people be wrong about evolution?
This Is What God Says: (Scripture Reading)
Genesis 1:1-31 ; 2:1-3 “This Scripture Reading is longer than
usual, but it is important to read it all.”
This Is How We Understand It:
Did the earth and the heavens, (the universe), form over millions of years accidentally, or did God create it all in only 6 days?
There are certain people that we know, called “evolutionists”. They are called evolutionists because they believe that every living thing on earth “evolved” over millions of years with no help from God. As a matter of fact, many of these people do not even believe in God. Evolutionist think that little, tiny sea creatures turned into fish, and some of the fish grew lungs, and crawled out of the water as reptiles, and some of the reptiles grew wings and became birds, while other reptiles learned how to climb trees and became monkeys, and some of the monkeys grew bigger brains, learned to stand up straight, and became men. Don’t laugh! That’s what they really believe. And it all happened over millions and millions of years, not just six days.
The fact is, the evolutionists weren’t there to see all of these things happen, but God was. They can’t prove that one living creature turned itself into a totally different kind of creature, and yet they still believe it! For me, believing what the book of Genesis teaches about creation is a whole lot easier to believe, than believing in that silly, old evolution nonsense.
I love John 1:3! “All things were made by Him (Jesus); and without Him was not anything made that was made.” And in Exodus 20:11, when God was giving the Ten Commandments to Moses, we are told that He created it all in only six days! “For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them.” When it says, “morning and evening were the first day,” in Genesis, it really means just a 24 hour day, not millions of years.
The evolutionists believe that billions of years ago there was dust and gases floating around in space. Then those gases and all that dust began to come together to form a huge, gigantic ball. As all this stuff was swirling around in a big ball, it got hotter and hotter. All of a sudden, BANG!!! There was a big explosion and all kinds of rock chunks went flying through space. The rock chunks, some big and some small, soon stopped flying and started rotating nicely in orbit. And that is how we got all the planets and stars. Do you think that is how it happened? I don’t think so, either. If you ask the evolutionists where all the gases and dust came from in the first place, they can’t tell you.
But we can tell them where all the planets, the stars, the trees, the oceans, the fish, the birds, the animals, and humans came from. They all came from God, the Master Designer. He created it all from nothing. Our almighty God can do that! And I think that I would much rather believe God, Who was there in the beginning, than believe a bunch of people who weren’t there. Wouldn’t you?
Remember, evolutionists need Jesus too. Will you tell them?
Think About It:
1. Have you ever looked into the night sky and studied God’s awesome handiwork?
2. Have you ever heard someone talk about evolution at school or on television? Do you remember what they said? Did they mention God or the Bible?
3. Why don’t you talk to someone your age about God’s awesome creation? Do it this week.
4. What did you learn in this devotional that you didn’t know before?
